Caring for your Essential Mattress
Breaking in your new mattress
It usually takes a couple of weeks to get accustomed to your new mattress. Here’s how you can help speed up the process.
Ensure your bedroom is warm
Remove the plastic sheets and let your mattress breathe for a few hours before you put on your bedding
Break it in with bodyweight - try laying on your mattress for a few hours while watching TV, or use some books to mimic bodyweight
Caring for your new mattress
Rotate your mattress every three months to keep it in the best condition
If using the mattress directly on the floor, you will need to allow the space below the mattress to air regularly to avoid moisture build-up
Use a mattress protector to keep the mattress in the best condition
How to clean your mattress
1. Air dry where possible
2. Vacuum the mattress surface (Remember to go over the sides as well)
3. Spot-clean the stain with a lightly damp cloth and mild detergent (e.g. dishwashing liquid)
4. Work your way from outside the stain towards the centre in a circular motion
5. If a bad odour is present from urine or sweat, fill in a spray bottle with a mixture of 3⁄4 cup water and 1⁄4 cup vinegar, spray and repeat Step 5
Drying your mattress
Sprinkle baking powder on damp areas and let it absorb the wetness. Expect it to clump up after 30 minutes, then vacuum it.
